The 3-2-1 rule is a useful orientation. For personal photos, that might mean the phone, a USB copy and another trusted backup kept separately.

A simple schedule beats a perfect plan
Back up after important events and at regular intervals. FotoSafe skips files already backed up when you use the destination again.

Open several new photos and large videos directly from the destination. Occasionally check older files too.
Limits
USB drives can fail, disappear or be damaged
Do not keep every copy in the same bag or room. Protect drives containing private media and retain another separately stored copy.

Choose a realistic interval, label the destination and keep enough free space. After important events, connect the drive, review the FotoSafe summary, copy, and open a few files from the destination. A small routine repeated consistently protects more than a perfect plan postponed forever.

No local method is automatically failure-proof or encrypted. Your device, routine and at least one separately stored copy determine the real protection.
